LVP Under Furniture Moves in Clermont
New LVP looks finished the day we leave. The first real test in a Clermont house is usually the next afternoon, when the couch comes back off the pads and the bed frame gets walked into the bedroom.
Luxury vinyl plank is tough. It is not immune to being dragged. A metal bed foot, a recliner roller, or a couch that gets scooted instead of lifted will scuff a wear layer or catch an edge. On a floating floor, that catch can lift a lock and leave a plank tented in the middle of the room.
The floor is waterproof. It is not a skate park. Move the furniture like you mean to keep the floor.
What scuffing and tenting actually are
Scuffing is surface damage. A sharp foot, grit under a sofa leg, or a bed rail that slides will leave a line. A 20-mil wear layer hides a lot of daily life. It does not hide a dragged iron frame.
Tenting is a lock problem. LVP in most of our Clermont installs is a floating floor. The planks click together and sit over the slab. They need a little room at the walls to move with heat. If a heavy piece pins a run, or if a foot catches a joint and pops it, the floor has nowhere to go. The plank peaks. That peak is not humidity swelling the vinyl. It is a joint that is no longer locked, or a floor that is trapped.
Lake County slabs and west-facing rooms already grow and shrink a floating floor with temperature. Furniture that never gets lifted just adds a second way to stress the same locks.
Move couches and beds, do not drag them
Lift. If two people cannot lift it, it needs sliders or it stays off the new floor until you have help. Dragging a sleeper sofa across a fresh lock is how you buy a repair visit.
Felt pads go on every foot before the piece sits down. Hard plastic and bare metal are the usual villains. Recliners and bed frames are worse than they look because the weight sits on a small point.
Hard sliders or a moving blanket under the legs if the piece has to travel more than a few feet. Do not use a bath towel. It bunches, traps grit, and scratches anyway.
Keep grit off the path. Sand from the slider, dog hair, and leftover install dust will grind under a sofa leg. Sweep or vacuum the run first. In Clermont that usually means the path from the garage or the lanai door, not just the living room.
Do not stack the whole house on one new room. A pile of dressers on a fresh float will telegraph through and can pinch a lock while the floor is still settling.
Beds are the common problem
Metal frames and platform beds have small, sharp feet. They catch the bevel between planks. If you walk the frame into the room on those feet, you can open a joint you will not see until you make the bed and notice a ridge.
Set the frame down, check the floor, then add the mattress. If a plank moved, call us before you load the bed. A popped lock is easy the same day. It is a bigger job after a week of sleeping on it.
Adjustable bases and heavy dressers belong on pads. If a piece is staying, we can talk through felt, cups, or a wider foot so the load is not on a dime-sized point.
If the floor already tented
Do not walk it flat and hope. Do not soak it. A tented plank is a lock that needs to be reset, or a run that needs the pin removed so the floor can move again.
