Should LVP Go In Before or After Kitchen Cabinets in Winter Garden and Windermere

In Winter Garden and Windermere kitchens, the order of LVP and cabinets is the decision that keeps a waterproof floor flat. Get it wrong and the planks buckle at the toe-kick when the house heats up.

The short rule

Click-lock luxury vinyl plank floats. It has to move. Cabinets are a fixed load. If you pin a floating floor under a cabinet run, you take away that movement and you often void the warranty. For click-lock, cabinets go down first. The floor runs up to the toe-kick with a hidden expansion gap.

Glue-down vinyl is the exception. That product is stuck to the slab, so the floor can go first and cabinets can sit on it.

What we check in the kitchen

Dishwasher height. If the cabinets are already in and the opening is tight, a new LVP thickness can leave the dishwasher unable to slide. We measure that before we order. Expansion gap at every toe-kick, end panel, and pantry. Trim gets nailed to the cabinet, not through the plank.

What happens if the floor is already down

If the LVP is already in and you are adding an island or a new cabinet line, we leave a clean gap and trim it. We do not caulk the planks tight to the box. Tight looks neat on day one and fails in August.
